A sketch
project
on the
new
city park
in
Falkenberg

For our residency project in Falkenberg, we were asked by AIO and the municipality to make sketches/come up with ideas for the design of the new city park, a public place that will be shared by teenage students from the local college, adult students from SFI, children as well as local residents using it as an extended garden. A park with multiple park functions and needs covered as well as hosting the public library building and a local education- and culture centre. There should be room for open play and entertainment as well as more intimate ones for studying and rest.

Since water is going to be an important element in the new city park through the design of the surface water drainage we took as starting point finding out what water – the ocean, Kattegatt and the river Ätran, means and has meant to Falkenberg. How could we incorporate water and the local thematics linked to it in the design of a play/family area? And what local craft is linked to the water, the river and sea in Falkenberg?

The sea and river is full of creatures and culture that we seem to know little about. Our proposal for the park family/play area take starting point in this theme, bringing it up to the surface of our conscience and knowledge.
